How much will my photo book cost?

Each book is unique and, therefore, can’t be quoted without additional information. The printing cost is based on number of pages, the dimensions of the book, and the type of paper you choose. Click “requestquote” and fill out the questions as completely as possible. I am then able to give you a quote on the project (no obligation and no cost to you). The quote is good for 30 days from the date of the quote.

How much will my Photobook cost to ship to me?

Currently, the cost to ship a book from the printer is $15.00. This charge is subject to change as it is controlled by the printer.

Can I get a discount on multiple copies?

The printer does not offer a discount until at least 5 copies of the same book (ordered at the same time) are ordered. If you order more than 7 copies at a time, I will, of course, pass on the book printer's discount

How many pages can I have in a photo book?

Each book is a minimum of 20 pages (10 sheets). Maximum can be virtually anything, based on the number of images and amount of text.

What size book should I order?

This tends to be a personal choice; however, I suggest certain guidelines. The most popular book sizes are Standard and Large. In most cases, the landscape design (wider than high) works best with photo books. The Standard Landscape (10x8 inches/25x20cm) is great for birthday celebration books, family histories, and the like. When you want to display wonderful travel images, wedding images, etc., the Large Landscape (13x11 inches/33x28cm) works very well. In any event, once you send the "Request Quote" form, I can give you an idea of what I feel will work best for your particular project. As the project progresses, you also have the opportunity to change the size.

How long does the whole process take?

Once you send me your CD of images (or via upload), it will take 5 to 8 working days to produce the first draft, depending on the size of the book and the number of photos.
Once I have final approval and payment, I send the book to the book printer. Delivery normally takes approximately 2-3 weeks. If it is going to take any longer for any reason I will contact you.

If you are in a rush, please ring me so we can discuss whether I can meet your deadline. Based on other work, I will try to accommodate you; however, there will be a rush premium of 50% on the design fee. The printing process, however, CANNOT be rushed so you must wait the 2-3 weeks for their segment of the process.

How do you know what order to place the photos in the book?

It is important to sort the photos in the order that you would like to see them in the book. The best option is to give me a general sense of order. For instance, if you are doing a travel photo book and you want the areas you visit in order of the actual trip, put them into folders on the disk. It is best that within a subject matter, I be allowed “creative license” to lay the photos out in the best way for a pleasing result. If you have a particular image you want for the front and/or back cover, please let me know. Or, if you wish for me to choose what I feel is best for the particular theme of the book, I’ll choose the images and you can approve them at the First Draft stage.

How many photos fit on a page?

As a rule of thumb, allow 3-4 photos/images per pages in the standard size (10x8"). Large Landscape (13x11") will allow for 4-6 photos/images per page; however, there will be some treasured photos that look best as a single image on a page. Printing price breaks are at 20/40/80/120 pages. As a result, unless we can easily make it within a given page count for a price break, it is best to allow me to spread the layout into more pages which creates a more pleasing finished product.

Can I add text to my photo book?

I encourage this as words add to the story you are telling. You may have some interesting stories or anecdotes to add. There’s no limit... just provide me with a Word or text Document to work from (please SPELLCHECK this document). When I send you the draft, please check the spelling and grammar carefully as I do not refund or exchange on books with these errors. Some clients prefer to write a Forward, while others want to add text in various parts of the book. Based on your book, I am happy to give guidance on this as well.

Can I make any changes before my photo book goes to print?

You can make a reasonable number of revisions after receiving your first draft. If you require a complete change in the book design from what has been discussed, then I reserve the right to charge additional fees. I will inform you before I charge any additional fees. If desired, I will send you a page or two just as I’m getting started to make certain you’re comfortable with the direction of design, AND I will be in constant touch with you through the process to make certain you are happy.

Can I view my photo book before it goes to print?

ABSOLUTELY! Once I finish the photo book, I will advise you of the URL on the web where you can view it. While you cannot make changes directly on that copy, you can come back to me with changes, etc.

What is your Return Policy?

Only IF the book is damaged in transit. If that happens (which has never happened yet!), I contact the printer for a new copy.

I am not responsible for the following (as you will have signed off on the draft first)

  • Typos, grammar, unfinished text, or other text errors
  • Low-resolution images that may appear blurry in print
  • Design issues, including book format, organisation, style, colour, and page layout

What is your cancellation policy?

If you have paid your deposit and I have not started work on your book, I refund the deposit in full. If, however, I have started work on your book, then your deposit is non-refundable. If you decide not to proceed with printing of your photobook after I have shown you the first draft, I will invoice you for the design cost of the book less any deposit paid. Once you have paid the final installment, no refund is possible as once I place the order with the printer I can not cancel it.
